This was the first lens I purchased after the kit lens for my Rebel XT. With this lens you are able to take ultra close up shots of small items. If you are interested in coins, small objects, Arrowheads, bugs, etc. The F/2.8 makes the photos very sharp, even though this is not an L Series lens. I have taken excellent portrait photos of people with this lens and it fits that role nicely as well. I've had this lens for over 8 years with zero issues. The Ultrasonic Motor in the lens is fast and quiet.
